View Full Version : SOLVED No login after updates

Applied some updates through Synaptic this morning after which I no longer see the GUI login screen but only get as far as the Kubuntu 10.10 splash screen cycling through 4 dots.
No problem with TTY login so I tried re-applying the updates from the CLI but no joy.
I tried running the plasma-desktop (not sure if that's a good idea or not) but it reports that this is not installed. Is this the cause of the problem, perhaps it was uninstalled during the update?
Should I try re-installing the plasma desktop or does anyone have other advice on next steps?
Thanks
Nick

I presume you are using the kubuntu updates ppa.
This is a packaging bug and there's a bug report already in.

If you're in a hurry, you can use ppa-purge to revert back to KDE SC 4.5.1.

I noticed this before I applied the upgrade. What maybe annoy me the most is that with KpackageKit it's much easier to do this mistake - with moun there is the safe-upgrade option, I really hope they implement Muon instead of KpackageKit (I know there's always synaptic - I don't like it cause it reminds me of Gnome)
Anyway - not sure but it looks like it has been fixed(?)
sudo apt-get -s dist-upgrade

Thanks for the updates.
This worked for me:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
The reboot.
