There is a guide called "HOWTO install DC++ for linux" on the Ubuntu forums, I wonder if the information there will be of any assistance to you (Even though the HOWTO was written / started April 2005 - worth checking file version numbers for the guide!) :-

I am not sure how relevant the AMD64 element of your post is to the matter, but with 16 pages of discussion, I am sure you will find what you need, or be able to ask for further information you require there.
