I installed the kubuntu-desktop meta package and my sound card quit working (it worked perfectly in GNOME). I fiddled a little bit and decided to just reinstall Kubuntu clean but my onboard sound still isn't working. I tried searching Google but could not find any relevant articles, so here I am. It looks like the module is loaded, right?

Unfortunately, I have no idea what this means, I have never had any problems before, and like i said it did work in GNOME... Any help provided would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmmm...

Sound works in KDE with Fedora Core 5...

Looks like I'll come back when Kubuntu gets a little more mature ;)

Before you do something drastic, try the stupid things:(1) start kmix and turn up the volumes on everything in sight on all tabs. (2)start SystemSettings>sound&multimedia>soundsystem>hardware and try alternate sound drivers.

Yeah, I did all that. It was a little puzzling. I did install FC5 though, but it was only on my PC for 1 day (yum sucks, :D). I am back to ubuntu for now. Hopefully I can figure it out, because it'd be nice to run KDE... thanks anyway

can't you just set Kubuntu to use Ubuntus ESD (enlightened sound daemon)?

I notice that you have the snd-seq-oss and snd-pcm-oss modules loaded. Why not try changing your sound driver to "Open Sound System" in K>Settings>Sound&Multimedia>SoundSystem>Hardware>"Select the audio device"?

Also, pleasetake a look at this Wiki page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems
