Kmenu wont show the icons of new programs

So recently I installed kubuntu. After I got the internet up and everything i tried to get firefox via command line. It said it worked successfully, but nothing showed up in the kmenu. Then decided to try to get adept and I had the same problem. Finally I decided to try to use terminal to run them it it worked. But what I am wondering is why aren't the icons showing up in the kmenu and how to get them there.

some times it seams a log out and in or a reboot will fix that.

What version of Kubuntu did you install?
