Basic Question: Upgrade from 9.10 RC?

I am a somewhat noob with Kubuntu still... Just wanted to check this:

I am using 9.10 RC. Will this upgrade to the final through the dist-upgrade via APT, or do I need to install from scratch to get the true 'Final' version of Karmic? Thanks!

I think if you have been updated through beta... you already have in effect the final release version already and you won't be prompted to upgrade today.

If you're running any 9.10 pre-release version, including Beta and RC, then if you will simply open the Konsole and enter this:


sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

when it finishes the update your system will be at the released version. ;)

I ran that command and its not showing ANY update on 9.10 RC. No packages to upgrade. Isn't it at the released version already?

I would say "yes".

Alternatively, the servers are too busy to respond, but you would have seen a connection failure if that were the case.

What does


lsb_release -a

tell you? :D

So should I keep running apt-get update && apt-get dist upgrade or did lsb_release -a confirm I have the final version?

You don't get upgrades because your RC is already upgraded to the final version.

Things don't change much from RC>release and you have likely already gotten all the upgrades before the release freeze.

Now that karmic is released, updates will slowly start coming in again.
