I could not agree with this more. The current LTS should always be identified with LTS. Otherwise people who download the latest Koala will think they are getting the "LaTeSt" version.

ASFAIK Heron was the last kubuntu LTS for now.

I believe the kubuntu gods decided to defer the next kubuntu LTS until kde4.x.x is as stable as kde3.x.x was (is).

I'm pretty sure the next ubuntu LTS release will also be a kubuntu LTS release, possibly 10.04 (if they keep the 2 year intervals between LTS releases)

Now, I am not sure if kubuntu heron is really LTS. I doubt it was changed retroactively.

The problem is that while ubuntu (with gnome) is LTS, kubuntu (with kde) isn't.

Of course the parts that kubuntu shares with ubuntu get the longer support, but not kde3 (or kde4 in hardy)

Stop confusing the issue. As I read the OP, this thread concerns whether or not Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron is the latest release of Kubuntu. How can say that it is unless you do not consider Intrepid and Jaunty to be releases?

The issue of whether or not Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron is an official LTS is seperate. The fact that I have never had clarity on this is very annoying, and thus I say that official LTS releases should always be clearly marked as such. It makes a huge difference to me and anyone else who does not want the bleeding edge (like Intrepid) releases for their main computer.

It isn't very clear, and that is Canonical's fault; the Kubuntu team had no input on this issue whatsoever.

To clarify, if it is possible: the Kubuntu bits are not long term support - and long term support only means security fixes, nothing else. Nothing about bug fixes, etc

but the non-kde bits, the kernel, drivers, xorg, etc are LTS
