Anyone know a simple explanation on how to use a network drive (separate LAN drive)? What I find searching is way beyond me.

If the drive is already shared, try clicking on the computer icon on the left side of the toolbar. Click on remote places. Look around and see if you can find your drive.

Need more information. Is the drive you are trying to access on a Windows or Linux computer? Is it shared? Are you using Samba, or NFS? Have you tried to mount the drive?

It is a free-standing disk, not living in any PC, most probably formatted for Windows. And I am using Samba, as this is a network with three dual boot, one XP and one Kubuntu exclusive.

Well, I'll let someone else jump in, because I'm not sure what a free standing disk is. Every disk I ever used was hooked to something.
