Whenever my laptop boots, it always turns the sound to mute(the actual mute light on the laptop comes on), and when Kubuntu is finally up, even by touching the mute button I can't make the sound come back. The only way I've found the sound to work is by pushing the mute button as soon as i notice it turn on, then when the computer is booted it's fine. But then I've found that sometimes the sound'll just get screwed up and stop working completely, until I reboot and do the same thing.
