I followed the directions at Kubuntu.org to install KDE4. But when I get the point of trying to install kde4-core, adept won't allow installation. I receive a message about the commit would break packages! I have a 64 install of kubuntu. Is the current KDE4 release applicable to 64 bit installs? Suggestions (help!) welcome... ::)

"Install kde4-core, note that PPAs aren't authenticated so you will likely get a warning when installing"
I think adept sucks at asking stuff so i would try konsole or synaptic. Im just guessing here.

I got a error to, with apt-get:
% sudo apt-get install kde4-core

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kde4-core: Depends: kdebase-kde4 (>= 4:4.0.0) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

Okay. So, I went to terminal and did it. It worked, except now I get this message from Adept-Updater:
The following packages have been kept back:
kdebase-bin-kde4 konqueror-kde4

I got the same error. Tried also with aptitude. I've got an amd64 kubuntu gutsy.

I had this problem, and it appeared to be a conflict between the packages in gutsy and gutsy-backport. I commented out gutsy-backport from the apt sources.list, and then it seemed to install ok.

Thanks for the tip. After it a got a new error
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kde4-core: Depends: kdebase-workspace (>= 4:4.0.0) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages
removing kdebase-workspace-data solved.
