Why do the built in SD card readers not work?

I have a HP laptop running Gutsy 64 bit with a TI PCI1620 5 in 1 Card Reader.

It is not working, why such a problem with these built in readers?

Depends on the type of reader. The SD/MMC reader in my Toshiba Libretto U100 just works.

I have a 6 in 1 card reader in my Dell 24" monitor and works like a charm every time !!!
