Kubuntu 5.10 installs fine but when it goes to start up i get a heather gray screen and no interface. Mouse moves, but I can't do anything but do just that. Does anyone know why the graphic interface/login is not showing up?

seems like some problem in your X configuration. Press Alt+Ctrl+F1 when you get that heather gray screen, this will lend you into the shell login prompt. login using your username and password. then issue
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg Follow this wizard. Once you finish seting up your X system. issue
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart.

ps:If you using a Nvidia card, disable the kernel framebuffer support
