I just rebooted after the last "upgrade" and now when I try to connect to MSN using Kopete, kopete sends a sigsegv. AOL seems to work fine.

dammit

using 64bit amd, Kopete 0.12.7 (using KDE 3.5.8 )

any advice?

thanks

I'm seeing the same thing. If I tell kopete not to automatically connect to MSN, it will stay running. As soon as it tries to connect to MSN, it crashes.

There are a number of bugs in launchpad for this problem:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdelibs/+bug/153500
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdenetwork/+bug/153574
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kopete/+bug/153611

I switched to Pidgin. HELL I SWITCHED TO OPENSUSE 10.3 after this poor installation of Kubuntu! WHAT HAPPENED GUYS! Everything is broken from initially getting the NVidia drivers working to a broken Kopete to a horrible implementation of compiz fusion! What gives?

Yes. They've uploaded a patch to the repos. Just do a "fetch updates" with Adept and it should come up. If not, follow the bread crumb trail to the launchpad posts, and it should lead you to this file:

kdelibs4c2a_3.5.8-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb

:)

worked great, thanks

for those working on the same problem...

go to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdelibs/+bug/153500/comments/29

download the one for your processor and type

sudo gdebi kdelibs4c2a_3.5.8-0ubuntu3_i386.deb

or if you have a amd64
sudo gdebi kdelibs4c2a_3.5.8-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb

cheers

OK, now I have really dumb question.

How does a Linux user get a msn IM service account in the first place? I was just looking at it and all I can see is 27 ways to install Windows Live Messenger 8.1, which can't be the way.

???

I already had an account from when I was using windows. My guess is you have to get to a windows machine and jump through microsoft's hoops first. Once you have a user name and password you can use them with kopete.
